Yes, if I could only do one event a year it would have to be Selkirk. It has everything......... a very long lap, technical sections, massive climbs & descents, high moorland, flat out blasts and the best views you'll get from an enduro bike in the UK.
A great course but the wooded sections get really slippy after rain. Last July was fairly hard going due to a lot of rain in the weeks leading up to it.

Hang in there OG. You will get there! I nearly made the same mistake as you on the Sunday and followed another rider past a turning and we ended up back on the green sea of algae. I thought that was a bit weird so I turned round and found the course again. If it wasn't for the fact that it was weird terrain I would have missed the test too.
Well done Nick on finishing your first enduro. I trust you were suitably tired but happy at the end?
Mixed bag for me. Lost 4 mins on Saturday but had a few steady but slow tests. Stayed clean on time on Sunday even after a detour into the bog with the wooden ramp near the end of the lap. When I got to the top of the hill I got stuck in another bog that was lurking to the right. I couldn't believe it! My last test was poor after getting stuck behind two riders in the ruts at the stream. Impatiently tried to get up one of the ruts and got myself stuck, chain came off and that probably cost me a few minutes on the test - gutted.
All in all it was a good weekend away. Not going to make Shiplaw and from what I have read on the website I don't think I will be too worried! _________________ If it aint broke keep trying.
Their was a fair number of riders missing complete sections out(bogs).But unlike yourself they were cheatin little bas**rds.A big well done done for completing what turned out to be a tough few days.

Normally you see a few folk cutting the occassional corner here and there but more noticably on Saturday there were people cutting the course everywhere. And not just wee corners, large sections. At least 2 - 3 other people I spoke to said the same thing.
On the third lap on Sat some dude in front of me was stuck about 2 mins from the start. I was sitting behind him waiting to sort himself out and was making preparations to go round. A bike appeared behind me and just turned left down the embankment and missed out the whole part of the track that took you farthest away before you turned back on yourself. Probably a good 5 mins saved there. _________________ If it aint broke keep trying.
I fell into the one near the start with the little bridge crossing on lap 2, the one your cross and go up and around to your left with the wall to your right, couldn't believe I did it, it was so easy, you could just sit down and tickle over it if you wanted too... think my biggest problem over the day was I steered the bike with the front wheel everywhere, that's something I will work on, the other one I got stuck in was the bottom of the field you then crossed a ditch into another section (the one most people were missing) I was sitting down for a breather watching them cutting across and heading back up the hill...thanks to a lad who was already stuck before the ditch, he got out and came around to get stuck with me I gave him and hand when his bike fell on him and he returned the favour once we had his steed out I then motor'd on up the biggest bog and passed the poor guy stuck again!! I think he'd had enough by then, he mentioned going over the bars somewhat earlier
Very tough day, as much mental as physical
Saw the video on youtube of the sunday, coming up the ridge of the railway line, this looked very tricky, a very narrow line
Back down to sportsman for me I'm afraid, I finished the 3 laps on Saturday but was well knackered, Sunday I did 3 laps and called it a day, I had been on time up until the 3rd lap when my bike was taking forever to start, I was coping with all obstacles bog, bridges etc, but come the road crossings when I had to stop the engine the bike was taking 10 - 15 minutes of kicking to get started up again, I did say to Old git as he passed "give me a 2 stroke any day" just for how easy they are to start. Did anyone else think the part on the special stage where they had a few paving slabs was a horrible part? Front wheel just kept on slipping off them into the rut at the side. Had my bike not been such a pain in the ass trying to get started when its hot Im sure I would have enjoyed it more, bring on Shiplaw.

It's hard to believe that in this day and age and with the resources available to the Japanese that they can't make a single cylinder, performance 4 stroke that will start reliably.

Almost forgot.......strangely enough, the paving slabs were about the only section of the course that I didn't have a problem with. That said, my test times will be measured with a calendar rather than a stop watch.

It's hard to believe that in this day and age and with the resources available to the Japanese that they can't make a single cylinder, performance 4 stroke that will start reliably.
Does anyone know why this is?
I think its mainly down to heat, the 4 stroke head retains that much heat the fuel vapours before igniting, hence why there hard to start when hot. My 2 stroke kicks first time every time, even when its been on its side
I've been temped to return to the 4 stroke, only because they are easier to ride and less tiring, but by far higher maintianance which is the reason I'm sticking to the simplicity of a 2 stroke motor
